Is Jesus allmighty and omniscient?
After GOD raised him from the dead, Jesus received all power from the Father. The fact that Jesus was given power (Old Greek: edothē) shows that he neither has this power of his own accord nor did he already possess it before his birth. It is GOD who exalts people and gives them power and dominion (Daniel 4,23 / John 3,27 / John 19,10 f. / Matthew 9,8 / John 17,2 / 1st Peter 1,21). The Old Testament prophesied that the Messiah, the Lord’s anointed one, would receive dominion over the whole world (Psalm 2,1-12 / Psalm 110,1). This fact does not make Jesus GOD, but rather the most powerful and respected person in the entire universe after GOD the Father. As in many places related to Jesus, the word all (Old Greek: pasa) here is to be understood in a relative sense. This does not mean that Jesus' power is unlimited like the Father's, but that everything is subject to his rule (both humans and angels); although GOD himself, who authorized Jesus to do so, is of course exempt from this (1st Corinthians 15,25-28). This extraordinary authority is the reward for Jesus' faithfulness to the Father and his unconditional obedience, which Jesus demonstrated in his earthly life (Philippians 2,9). It allows him to act almost without restriction as GOD's representative from heaven. Jesus has become (Old Greek: ginomai) more exalted than all humans and angels of GOD (Hebrews 1,4). He was accorded greater glory and honor than all other creatures. Nevertheless, even after his exaltation, Jesus is and remains a (glorified) man and subject to GOD, the Father (1st Corinthians 11,3).
It is clear from Scripture that Jesus did not know everything, as he increased in wisdom (Luke 2,52) and was ignorant of certain things (Matthew 24,36). Whenever the word everything (Old Greek: pas) is used, the context must be examined to determine whether it is to be understood in an absolute or a limited sense. The Apostle John writes that believers know everything (1st John 2,20). John does not mean that Christians possess all knowledge, but rather that they have already understood the most important things regarding the gospel and the will of GOD. The statement in John 21,17 does not mean that Peter considered his Lord omniscient, but rather that Jesus knew him well enough to know that Peter loved him. Jesus, too, knew only as much as he needed to know to judge people correctly. The claim that Jesus, in his "divine nature", knew everything but was limited in his "human nature", falls short. GOD is omniscient, while humans possess limited knowledge. Jesus cannot be both omniscient and not omniscient at the same time. If Jesus had temporarily suspended his omniscience, he would not have been able to know everything. If Jesus had merely concealed his knowledge, the claim that he did not know the time of his return, but only the Father, would be a lie, since Jesus, in truth, knew everything. The explanation that Jesus concealed his omniscience as a human being is also not credible because he apparently used his supernatural knowledge deliberately, as in this case.
There is no verse that says Jesus knew everything the same way GOD did. All the wisdom Jesus possesses comes from GOD. It is the Father who revealed everything important to Jesus in advance. GOD, through the Holy Spirit, showed Jesus what was in people's hearts—that is, their true motives and intentions. Similarly, GOD revealed secrets to His prophets that an ordinary person could not know. The prophet Nathan knew about David's secret sin (2nd Samuel 12,7). The prophet Ahijah knew what Jeroboam's wife wanted and who she was, even though he was already blind at the time and she was wearing a disguise (1st Kings 14,4 + 6). Elijah knew that King Ahab had committed murder by falsely accusing Naboth (1st Kings 21,17-20). He also knew what the king of Israel wanted to know (2nd Kings 1,1-4). Elisha knew that his servant Gehazi was lying and that he was greedy (2nd Kings 5,19-27). Daniel knew about Nebuchadnezzar's dream, even though Nebuchadnezzar hadn't revealed it to anyone (Daniel 2,5 + 28-30).
