Does Jesus' name indicate his divinity?
The name "Jesus" means GOD saves. Jesus' prophetic name, which is "Immanuel", means GOD with us. Almost every Hebrew name has a direct reference to GOD:
Samuel = GOD is exalted
Elijah = My GOD is Yahweh
Michael = Who is like GOD?
Jacob = GOD protected
Gabriel = hero of GOD
Jonathan = gift from Yahweh
Daniel = GOD is judge
Nathan = GOD gave
Asahel = Consecrated by GOD
Joseph = The Messenger of GOD
John = GOD is merciful
Raphael = GOD heals
Isaac = The laughter of GOD
Isaiah = GOD is salvation
Ishmael = GOD hears
Elisabeth = GOD is perfect
Jesus' name expresses that he is the savior promised by GOD and that GOD saves through Jesus or carries out His plan of salvation through Jesus. In this way GOD shows that he is with people. In many places, GOD speaks of Himself as the doer, although other people (both humans and angels) do something in His name/order. The fact that a name has a connection to GOD does not make the bearer of the name GOD. "Jesus" was and is a common Hebrew name. Both before and after Jesus there were people who had the same name as him.
