Bible quotes against the Trinity - page 3
1st Thessalonians 1,1
1 Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in GOD the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you, and peace, from GOD our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
1st Thessalonians 1,9 f.
9 (...) for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to GOD from idols to serve the living and true GOD,
10 and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.
Here too, Paul makes a distinction between the "living and true GOD" and "His Son" Jesus.
2nd Thessalonians 1,11 f.
11 With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our GOD may make you worthy of his calling, and that by His power He may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith.
12 We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our GOD and the Lord Jesus Christ.
1st Timothy 1,1 f.
1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of GOD our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope,
2 to Timothy my true son in the faith: grace, mercy and peace from GOD the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
1st Timothy 1,17
17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only GOD, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
While Paul still speaks of Jesus in verse 16, in verse 17 he praises the one true GOD, whom he unequivocally distinguishes from Jesus; as the introductory word "but" makes clear. It is GOD who receives the highest honor; not Jesus (Romans 9,5).
1st Timothy 2,5
5 For there is one GOD and one mediator between GOD and mankind, the man Christ Jesus (...).
Paul declares that Jesus is the human mediator between GOD and humanity. He remains this even after his resurrection from the dead. If Jesus were GOD, Paul could have stated this at this point. Furthermore, Paul would not need to emphasize that Jesus is human if, according to Trinitarian doctrine, he only temporarily laid aside his divinity.
1st Timothy 6,13
13 In the sight of GOD, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you (…).
Paul clearly distinguishes between GOD as Creator and Jesus as man.
Titus 1,4
4 (…) to Titus, my true son in our common faith: grace and peace from GOD the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.
1st Peter 1,3
3 Praise be to the GOD and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, (…).
1st Peter 1,20 f.
20 He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.
21 Through him you believe in GOD, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in GOD.
Peter explains in verse 20 that GOD revealed Jesus to humanity only at a specific time. Contrary to the claims of Trinitarians, this was not the case at the time of the Old Testament. Verse 21 further shows that only with the resurrection did Jesus receive the glory that GOD had intended for him before the foundation of the world (John 17,5). Jesus did not possess this glory from the beginning.
1st Peter 3,18
18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to GOD. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.
Jesus came into the world to lead us humans to GOD, not to himself. Jesus is the way; GOD the Father is the goal.
1st Peter 3,22
22 (...) who has gone into heaven and is at GOD’s right hand—with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.
Paul does not claim that Jesus is GOD, but rather GOD'S image, in which every human being was originally created or recreated in Christ.
1st John 4,9
9 This is how GOD showed his love among us: He sent His only begotten Son into the world that we might live through him.
The core message of the gospel is that GOD sent His Son, who is fully human, into the world, and not that GOD Himself became human.
Hebrews 1,1 f.
1 In the past GOD spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways,
2 but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and because of whom He made the ages / the universe.
In the Old Testament, GOD spoke to mankind through His prophets and not through the Son, whom He only raised up for mankind about 2,000 years ago.
Hebrews 1,5
5 For to which of the angels did GOD ever say, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father”? Or again, “I will be his Father, and he will be my Son"?
GOD begot Jesus at a specific time as a human being, not as GOD. This verse has nothing to do with an "eternal sonship" as taught by Trinitarians.
Hebrews 2,5-9
5 It is not to angels that He has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking.
6 But there is a place where someone has testified: “What is man that you are mindful of them, a son of man that You care for him?
7 You made him a little lower than the angels; You crowned him with glory and honor
8 and put everything under his feet.”
9 But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of GOD he might taste death for everyone.
Jesus is a perfect human being and, as such, GOD's heir. Between his birth and crucifixion, he was, as a human being, inferior to the angels. Only after his resurrection was Jesus exalted above the angels. GOD, however, cannot be exalted, since He is the Most High and, as such, stands above all angels from the beginning.
Hebrews 2,11 f.
11 Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy come from the same. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.
12 and says, "I will declare Your name to my brothers and sisters; in the assembly I will sing Your praises.”
Verse 11 makes it clear that Jesus, like all other people, is equally descended from GOD. What distinguishes Jesus from all other people is that he was supernaturally conceived by the Holy Spirit. Because Jesus is fully human, he can call other believers his brothers (verse 12). The fact that Jesus sings praises to GOD also contradicts the thesis that he himself is GOD.
Hebrews 2,14-17
14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their flesh so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—
15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.
16 For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants.
17 For this reason he had to become like them, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to GOD, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.
Hebrews 4,15
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.
Hebrews 5,7
7 During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.
Hebrews 7,25
25 Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to GOD through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.
This verse makes it clear once again that Jesus is not GOD, but the way to GOD.
Hebrews 10,12
12 But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of GOD (...).
Hebrews 12,2
2 (…) fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of GOD.
James 1,1
1 James, a servant of GOD and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes scattered among the nations: greetings!
Jude 24 f.
24 To Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy—
25 to the only GOD our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore!
Jude also distinguishes between Jesus and the only GOD. Instead of worshiping Jesus as GOD, GOD is honored through Jesus. This, in turn, does not represent indirect worship, but rather expresses that our service to Christ serves to the glory of GOD the Father.
Revelation 1,1
1 The revelation from Jesus Christ, which GOD gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John (...).
The revelation was given to Jesus by GOD. If Jesus were GOD, he himself would be the source. Instead, Jesus acts as an intermediary to interpret GOD's Word and pass it on to believers.
Revelation 1,4 f.
4 John, to the seven churches in the province of Asia: grace and peace to you from Him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from the seven spirits before His throne,
5 and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.
In the Book of Revelation, John also consistently distinguishes between GOD Almighty and Jesus, the supreme ruler after GOD the Lord. At no point is Jesus himself called "GOD."
Revelation 3,12
12 The one who is victorious I will make a pillar in the temple of my GOD. Never again will they leave it. I will write on them the name of my GOD and the name of the city of my GOD, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my GOD; and I will also write on them my new name.
Jesus speaks of "his GOD" a total of four times in this single verse. This shows that GOD is above Jesus even after his resurrection. If Jesus himself were GOD, he would refer all of these statements to himself. Instead, however, Jesus refers to himself separately at the end of the verse.
Revelation 5,9 f.
9 And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for GOD persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.
10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our GOD, and they will reign on the earth.”
These two verses make it clear that Jesus redeemed people for GOD, who is clearly distinguished from Jesus. Jesus is not worshipped as GOD in this song, but is honored for his devotion to GOD and humanity.
Revelation 7,10
10 And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our GOD,
who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.”
This verse also expresses a difference between GOD and Jesus (the Lamb).
Revelation 12,10
10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our GOD, and the authority of His Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our GOD day and night, has been hurled down.
This verse also clearly distinguishes between GOD and His Christ.
Revelation 21,22
22 I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord GOD Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.
And again, a distinction is made between Almighty GOD and the Lamb (Jesus). If Jesus himself were Almighty GOD, this distinction would be unnecessary.
